As you start shopping for your wedding gown, you may hear the term "trunk show." What does it mean -- and why does it matter to a bride?

Trunk shows offer a great opportunity to see a broader variety of gowns from a designer than any one salon could ever feature. Because they need to carry multiple designers, no salon is able to carry any one designer's entire line. So, a trunk show event is arranged in which designers' representatives bring a "trunk" with a wide selection of gown samples not featured in the salon's normal inventory. Trunk shows provide an opportunity for you to see much more of a designer's range -- and try on many more samples.

In some cases, trunk shows may include bridesmaids designs as well as gowns for the bride. And there may even be special pricing.

Ask your local bridal gown salons about trunk shows they may be hosting -- most typically, these occur during the wedding "shopping season" of December through April, but each store will have its own schedule.
